Thankfully I don't get many calls outside reasonable hours. I was nice to the guy when he called--it was just funny to me. His first question was is it just the body or does it have the pickups too? I thought, this guy wants to know if the pickup comes with the fender???? I responded I just had the fender. He then said something about strings and I put it together and said dude this is a fender for a pickup truck. He said oh, I thought it was a fender guitar. I said sorry, goodbye.
I'm sure caller id has eliminated a lot of teen prank calls but today we have other types of junk calls--I'm sure you've received them too. Selling alarm systems, credit card interest lowering scams, and those Indian tech support guys that claim your computer is infected. Thankfully I've cut those considerably too using a blocked caller list and I no longer accept caller who block their caller id.
I haven't subscribed to the paper in over 15 years but I must say I think the Greensboro News and Record is making a good move in offering free ads. By encouraging ads they encourage people to buy the paper. A larger number of readers enhances their appeal to business advertisements which I'm sure is what actually pays for them to print the paper.
Although I think the N&R is making a good move I'm sure they know that it's futile in the long run too. They're trying to do something profitable online but I honestly don't see that working out either. Certain categories and over $500 ads cost and your right it's like $30! I wouldn't make anything if I had to pay that much for the ad.
I've done some on ebay. The very nature of this post is a sticking point for me. How to describe my items so they sell w/o some seller with idealistic expectations doesn't trash my ratings. If you don't play up an item it will not sell for much--but the buyer has to be happy. Between ebay and paypal they take %14 of my selling price + shipping! So it is possible to get only one bid on an item starting at 99 cents and costing $12 shipping resulting in $1.82 in fees and a "profit" of -.82 cents. Someone even marked points off my rating for shipping costs when I only charge actual shipping costs--and the cheapest I can find. Still most people are very happy with the items I sell. I represent my stuff as used and for instance on some flatware I have for sale now I say "They look great or almost new to me but keep in mind I'm not a collector or an expert on flatware--look at the pictures an judge the condition for yourself." I don't want some collector saying the finish is not as shinny as it should be or whatever someone might find wrong with them--they look new to me. It feels like a minefield sometimes as your sure to hit someone with unrealistic expectations eventually. I don't accept returns because shipping cost so darn much I couldn't possibly refund their shipping and or pay them to ship it back. And offering returns surely encourages the buy it and return it if I don't like it mentality.
I actually sold a guy 2 pickup truck toolboxes via CL once. The guy wanted the full-size one. He called a buddy and asked if he wanted the compact one I had. He told him the measurements etc right in front of me. He said his buddy thought it was a good deal and he gave me a deposit for them. He returned a few days later with the remainder of the cash and picked up both. He noted at that time the compact one would barely fit (only 1" wider than the bed inside) his buddy's truck). Two days later he called to say his buddy didn't want the box and could he return it. I said I'm sorry, I hope you got the money from your buddy when he told you he wanted it and suggested he put it on CL and resell it himself. He seemed to understand he just thought I'd take it back and resell it. Now what would make him think I'd do that? If he only knew how many months I'd been trying to sell it he'd really understand why I didn't want it back.
I have offered a week warranty on some used hard drives and took one back because he was too stupid to know it wouldn't fit his computer. Funny thing was he called to say it wouldn't fit and could he return it but then kept putting off doing so. Last text message from him was he didn't have a car that night to which I replied, I didn't mean be be mean but I'd given him a 1 week warranty and that was up 2 days ago and if he didn't show up tonight it was his--he was here in 30 minutes. Way to find a car.

Today's Featured Article - Good As New - by Bill Goodwin. In the summer of 1995, my father, Russ Goodwin, and I acquired the 1945 Farmall B that my grandfather used as an overseer on a farm in Waynesboro, Georgia. After my grandfather’s death in 1955, J.P. Rollins, son of the landowner, used the tractor. In the winter 1985, while in his possession the engine block cracked and was unrepairable. He had told my father
