JDSELLER or others help with 4020 question

I always read your post and you are very helpful on john deere tractors so I thought you might be able to help me. Others please chime in as well. I was cutting CRP with a 10 foot woods mower and a john deere 4020 synchro shift tonight. I hit a patch of tougher stuff and the pto bogged down and then quit turning. I unhooked the mower and the shaft wouldn't turn. I can turn it with my hand. Also when I shift the tractor it make some noise whenI first let my foot off the clutch but shift ok otherwise. What did I do?
