Went out this evening to give the chickens some food and water.
My pump house is under a stand of trees. The area is seldom cut so it has some tall grass; 1 to 4 foot trees; heavy leaf cover. Cleared just enough you can walk to the pump house.
As I am walking away from the well; carrying a 5 gallon bottle of water in one hand; and the water base in the other; I noticed the stick I was about to step next to was slithering toward me.
Took to the next step before I could jump up and let out a yell from being startled.
Think I scared the snake more than it scared me as it took off when I jumped.
Looking back I could see it was a speckled king snake so I just went about my business.
Not wanting to go threw this again I went and got the tractor and brush cutter. Was cleaning up a area around the well house when a bug flew in my face. Took a few seconds for my nose to start stinging but then I realized what that bug was.
A yellow jacket had just stung me on the bridge of my nose. Good thing I had my glasses on or it could have been in the eye.
I have had enough excitement for one evening.
