I've noticed that I usually buy things for really good prices when I'm not all that interested in the item (maybe it helps me to think more clearly?). For example, I bought my 2N for $2000 when I was actually interested in a Golden Jubilee that was also at the auction. The 2N didn't seem to be going up real fast and I decided to see if I could get it buy jumping the price more by twice what the previous bidders had been doing. That seemed to stop the bidding dead and I got the 2N (at what seems to be a very good price around here).
Similar things have happened at other auctions -- you just need to pay attention to each item and decide what it's worth to you. If it starts going for less, jump in and buy it. Of course, you have to be reasonable about what you need -- don't go bidding on things that you don't have ANY use for just because there going cheap!
