Nancy, Deep Freeze was / is a good brand. My parents bought a new one in 1948 when rural electric came to our part of North Dakota.
This little chest type freezer still functions perfectly as it has for 66 years. I have replaced the lid seal and latch, but the refrigeration stuff still works fine with no service. By the way, the price sticker is still on the underside of the lid. It cost $424.50 in 1948,just a bit more than $4000 in 2014 dollars as told by an inflation calculator. Quality is not cheap, how many would pay $4000+ for a little white 12 cubic ft chest freezer today, even if they suspected it might function for 70 years ??
