If the tag fees are paying for roads why does the county apply property tax levy funds to the highway department? What about the fuel tax money that is supposed to be going to roads? Soaking folks on new cars is a really stupid thing for a state to do. Seems they forgot that they also collect sales tax when a new vehicle is sold AND if a vehicle is traded when it gets sold they get more sales taxes. In theory if they reduce the trade cycle by 25% they should increase sale tax revenue by more than 25% (dealers sell the trades for more than they allowed) and the state and feds also pick up the possibility of income tax on the sales revenue from the salesman and the dealer. What about the environmental aspects of making folks drive older vehicles (they use more fuel and produce more carbon emissions), wouldn't that be almost criminal under the global warming doctrine? And to say nothing about the safety factor, newer vehicles are safer for those riding in them and should be prone to less mechanical failure that could cause accidents (unless it's a newer GM with the bad ignition switch or shifter) improving safety for the occupants or any one else driving on the road. Also think, fewer new vehicles means fewer Auto workers and aren't those the good high paying jobs that government tells us they are trying to create?
