9 years ain't bad for a conventional flooded cell battery.
My longest lived battery is the Optima red top in my IH W9 reversed loader tractor using a 305 Chevy V8.
We installed a new Optima red top when we built the tractor in 1992. still cranks great and is used most every day.
Take care of those spiral cell AGM batteries with a charging system with an accurate solid state regulator and they will last a long time.
I have a Dozen rigs on the farm with Optima red tops or the Exide Orbital clone of the Optima, that are between 15 and 20 years on the same battery with no fighting terminal or battery box corrosion. Their expensive, but if cared for will about last the life of the machine.

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
