Well,that clutch is pretty reliable and I have no way of knowing if the sudden engagement is normal but if its a hydraulicly operated clutch then maybe you can do somethind to the pressure regulator to "feather" your tractors clutch. Look in the operators manual or ask someone who owns one of these tractors.
