What where you using for an anti virus protection program??? I found that you can use the free stuff if you like to fool with it every single day. IF you don't then you need to spend the money and use one of the full service programs to help keep your computer safe.
I also copy pictures on to a thumb drive and disk in addition to my computer. The thumb drive is some where else on the property. The disk is rotated through my safety deposit box. I have two and switch them once each month.
