Kinda the same situation here four years ago. A longtime friend/acquaintance who grew up three miles away had been our State Representative until she was term limited out. She chose not to run for State Senate because her sister was moving away and she said she needed to be here to look after her mother. She paraded another term limited rep around the district like a prize calf, campaigning for him. He had opposition, but he won the nomination, but not by a lot. After getting the nomination,he was chosen to be the running mate of the guy running for governor,so he dropped out of the Senate race. Everybody thought the guy who ran against him in the primary should have the nomination. Well, the local gal swept in and pulled a few shady tricks and took the nomination. She won in the general election and is our State Senator, but she did it without my vote. I voted Libertarian in protest. She's doing a good job,but I haven't talked to many who like the way she got the nomination.
