We had one particular field that the according to my elders, the previous owner (he must have been an idiot) during the last war had hired a Fowler Gyrotiller run over it and it brought all the clay subsoil ( and several huge boulders) up to the top. It took many a year and hundreds of loads of farm yard manure to get that field back into good condition again!
