A backup is a must if you get buzy and rely on a tractor. This fall during Walnut harvest and hulling season, I had my JDB clutch bolt break, so it was dead in the water with no parts or time to fix. Then I used my 52 Farmall H but had to unhook the forks to pull the spreader. The JD Model H ground drive manure spreader used to scatter walnut hulls decided to shuck the unloader drive casting and I was stuck having to find another spreader to avoid shoveling a mountain of wet walnut hulls. I now have a spare spreader! So if your job relies on having a tractor, a spare is invaluable.
