Shaft wiggle or movement doesn't really mean anything. I had to replace the one on my semi after a million miles. The shaft was tight and spun freely. Just wore out. If it has an air to air on it check it for leakage. Just plug one end off and then with a regulator apply about 30PSI MAX to the air to air if it holds for like a minute or so it is good. You can make the plugs out of PVC caps and a hose clamp. Drill one cap for a pressure gauge, and tire valve. Then you can monitor the pressure as you pressurize it. This will also tell if there are boots leaking as it won't build pressure.
