H and Ms get condensation in trannies, rain can get in by the shift lever. Brother got a H at estate sale late fall and it ran good enough - then after snowfall it wouldn't get into gear to get out of machine shed after engine started one cold morning. Blanket and propane heater under rear end advised for the morning- pull drain plug and have a shallow pan ready to catch drippings. Couple gallons of water came out first , then a couple gallons of mud slush before the final drain of milky oil and slush. Pan over flowed couple times, made a mess. Fresh oil and PTO, Belt drive and tranny worked fine after that. IHC shop mech said drain water and top with good oil was standard for older models brought in especially if they'd been setting outside awhile. Auction prep done by older brother included crack open drain plugs JD, Case, IHC- just about all of the older tractors- to see if water dripped out. If tractor doesn't start when it is it's turn to be sold- bids are 1/2 scrap price. If engine starts- then can get $300-$500.00 start bid on a H, Drive it out of line to auction wagon and demonstrate PTO, brakes and start bid is $500.00 to $700.00-- these are 5 year+ old prices. Old motorcycles can have some water in engine, drives at times- BMW R50/2 rescue had cup of water in tranny and couple table spoons full in rear end, bit in engine-- setting in police impound yard after wreck is not the same as heated garage. Little critter was on the road 2 weeks after I got it to home garage and made the scrounge rounds among the clubs. RN
