I have seen too many hydraulic systems ruined by cheap/wrong oil in them. I now usually only use a good quality hydraulic oil in anything I own or work on.
Some older simple systems like an old JD two banger or a IH "M" do not need anything real fancy but just about everything else should have good oil in it.
I have told several customers over the years that if they put some "cheap" hydraulic oil in something I repaired then there would be ZERO warranty on any thing I did to it.
