They come out of the bigger salvage yards like LKQ. You'd be amazed at how many vehicles come through the facility that I do work for that have blown engines, etc, but brand new tires and/or rims.
Heck, take the number of cars that are actually running and drivable, and it will amaze, and sicken you at the waste this country generates. For example I recently saw a NICE '02 Camaro that had absolutely nothing wrong with it beyond being towed, never claimed, and then sold at auction. It was eventually parted out, and crushed. Thing is it was bought for around $1500, but by the time it was parted out, and the remains scrapped,(((and I mean wiring harnesses cut and sold for copper, all the fluids recovered and sold, the tires and rims sold as is, or for scrap, etc, etc, etc, it would be expected to net a profit of about $3000 to $3500, over and above the purchase price.
