: : Can any one give me any information on the first model with no series??? : : Or any other valuable information regarding cub cadet colltiables : the first cub cadets had 7 hp kohler engines and a short belt drove the : direct shaft into the cub transmission. the mower : was a two blade unit that used a timing belt to keep the two blades : apart. the bearings in the mower hub were sealed, : didn't last long and soon were replaced with the type that could be greased. : the shafts and pully's gave a lot troble. until the 3 bladed deck, with : tampered roller bearing was introduced the cub cadet was not very : satisfactory for most users. currently i am using a 3 bladed 38" deck that was : built in 1971 and none of the spindle bearing or shafts have been replaced. Reguarding the Original with the 2 bladed deck; I can tell you from my personal experience that no other Cub Cadet cuts he grass as well as this old machine. I also find it to be reliable as any 3 blade deck. Mine has the greasable type bearings and at least they don't cost $100 like the 3 blade spindle bearings do. I don't claim to be a Cub Cadet expert but I have owned several different IH Cub Cadet Garden Tractors with various 3 blade decks and not one of them has worked as well as my old Original when it comes to mowing performace. I guess I might be the only one that feels this way but I'll challange anyone to prove me wrong. Mike Dane
