While it could be the button itself, Id first suspect a faulty starter solenoid or a loose or burned connection (battery or cables or grounds) or the starter motor.
One thing Id look at would be the big main battery and ground and solenoid and starter connections looking for one that's loose or burned or corroded. Maybe remove n clean n wire brush all those big main cable and battery and starter and solenoid and ground connections n see what happens.
I have no wiring diagram but that push button probably just feeds a low current signal to the starter solenoids small activation terminal (or perhaps another small intermediate relay) and since its relatively low current compared to the starter solenoid, Id suspect another cause first.
I have seen a bad starter that takes a few hits before it engages, but its hard to say sitting here whether its the starter itself or starter solenoid or a bad connection which Id still suspect over the small push button.
