Can't say if better or worse - but the Schumacher 1.5 amp "Speedy Charge" maintainers are just about always $18 at Walmart. Work on 6 volt or 12 volt systems and come with a hard-wire option if wanted. I've got over 20 of them and have been using for four years now. Zero problems. Two of them are on diesel trucks with two large batteries each which is technically too much for a 1.5 amp maintainer. They've worked out great though.
