I like those old barns but they are gradually disappearing. My great uncle Jack had one built in 1924. Gambrel roof with a lean added later to the West side . It still stands but the land was sold in the 1940s and the current owner does not use it and is gradually letting it deteriorate. I do have the original blueprints if I ever want to build a new one :-) This photo of Jack and his horses was taken when the barn was quite new.

I pulled the head, and soaked the stuck valves with mystery oil overnight, re-installed the head, and bingo, the compression returned.
