Here in Seward County, NE, we meet every Tuesday morning, plus there are other committees the commissioners are on.
We have a special meeting tomorrow morning to assign the committees and other duties for the upcoming year. Tentatively, I'm down for the Aging Services Commission, Upper Big Blue River NRD Liaison, Solid Waste Management Board, Planning and Zoning Board Liaison, Veterans Service Committee, Liaison to the Weed Committee, Buildings and Grounds Committee, and Liaison to the Emergency Manager.
Our big issue now is we're getting down to the wire on building a new County Jail and Criminal Justice Center, which we need badly. Last year, the county spent almost $200K just boarding prisoners with surrounding counties because we didn't have the capacity ourselves. It's a $12 million project, and interestingly I haven't heard any public opposition to it.
I've attended a lot of meetings on all of this as a spectator to get the feel of what's going on. Here, it pays respectably for what is basically a part time situation.
