I would wait until spring when there might be a demand for that baler, but it might still be a tough sale.
I've had equipment that I absolutely wouldn't take some low ball price and haul it to scrap for a lesser price than let some knuckle head get a deal at my expense. Right or wrong, my clock doesn't necessarily tick by the amount of green in my pocket. I'd rather take a loss at my own doing (read scrap) than give some low baler the satisfaction of getting something for nothing.
I like the other option you mentioned, stripping the baler for parts that will interchange with your 68 and scrapping the rest.
But I think if you wait until spring and sell the baler as a parts machine - you'll get a buyer.
