City of Centralia, Washington started something new about 5 years ago- a parade of tractors decorated with lights, taking place at 6 PM (dark, of course). Only about 8 or so units the first year, but it has grown like wildfire. 81 units last night- not all tractors, some trucks (including a one ton Diamond T with an old roll-back bed that was to die for). Each unit is supposed to have at least a thousand lights. Most had a Honda generator, either in the loader bucket or strapped on the back. Many of the tractors towing trailers with church groups, scout troops, bands, Mrs. Berger's accordion students, you get the idea). If you want to enter a tractor, the organizer will match you up with a trailer full of somebody, if you want. Local John Deere and New Holland dealers donated use of a couple of their largest units, much to the delight of the kids, most of whom haven't seen anything that big.
Sidewalks all along the route were full, probably as well attended as the parades in the summer.
Something to think about doing in your town, especially if your climate in December is conducive to such a thing. Temp here is usually OK (about 45 last night, I think), and IT DIDN'T RAIN.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
