I have a 31 year old great nephew (Wife's side) who's back in the slammer for about the third or fourth time.
He was just paroled a couple of months ago after doing one year of a 2 to 4 year sentence for domestic violence. He's a proficient, school trained diesel mechanic and had a good job with a local Kenworth dealer. He was being considered for second shift foreman. And he threw it away.
How he's back in the slammer for beating up an ex girlfriend and hitting a man with his pickup. Both are felonies with a possible five year sentence each.
And to talk with him, he's the nicest looking, most respectful, well groomed young man you'd hope to meet.
But--consider his role models. His father and uncle have each been in the slammer at least twice for various drug offenses. And his sister has been in a girl's reformatory at least once for various offenses.
And both of my wife's brothers who produced that mess are solid, upstanding citizens. It kind of boggles the mind.
