MarkB_MI said: (quoted from post at 16:52:14 12/20/14) AG, would you rather be called crazy or a liar? One is an illness, the other is a character flaw of the worst kind. Rich's insistence on calling perfectly fine people "liars" is getting old.[/quote:78c6dcef10]
If anyone calls me either to my face, they better be prepared to prove it or be prepared to digest their teeth. I've never called Edd a liar, nor have I called anyone else a liar that posts on this site. I never supproted Rich calling Edd a liar. I do believe I told Edd once he had a "comprehension issue" in a past thread, and explained why I thought so. On that issue in that thread, I stand by that response.
I gave my opinion, and it disagreed with Edd on the earlier FDA subject. I used a journalism piece to provide basis for my dissenting opinion when Edd first attempted to use the same reference to supposedly try and prove his point. A response would have been nice to see exactly where he was coming from. I would have left it alone altogether if not for the cute remark about simple life down on the farm. I'm probably not the brightest, but I found the article he only briefly referenced and was able to read and comprehend it.
[quote:78c6dcef10]As for the listeriosis outbreak, I think Edd's point was that incidents like it are relatively rare in this country, but not in other parts of the world where food safety is not regulated. Still there are those who would eliminate all regulation and turn the US into something between the Russian kleptocracy and the anarchy of Somalia.
Bureaucacy, piles of money, and agencies on power trips don't solve problems. People, knowledge (especially shared knowledge), and a bit of money can solve problems. Most people know to do the right thing. Our justice system is based on punishment after the fact, unless you're dealing with a State or Federal alphabet agency, where you are guilty of everything in their rulebook that applies to you until you show why you're not guilty of said possible infraction. Some very good fruit, veggie, and livestock farmers with solid production standards have quit or reduced the size of their operations because of a variety of government interventions supposedly intended for the good of the public. Unless they get caught, the sloppy ones that cut corners, fudge paperwork, and try to get away with anything and everything are all still there. Occasionally they'll nail one, but where there's one, there's a dozen more.
Much like some good farmers throwing in the towel, many good places of business have reduced employees, cut working hours, or closed their doors to no longer worry about dealing with over-taxation, government nonsense, the ACA, and other over-regulation.
Also, my opinion given on our economic status in this thread, is just that: an opinion, but an opinion based on my observations. Our area, and a few places I've been to in the last few months are not looking too good. Jobs are trickling back, but most are not the type of jobs that will ever sustain our country long-term, nor do they command the pay that will allow the idea of the American Dream to be more than a thought in the back of the minds of far too many of the people in this country. Our current state of our economy is our new reality, and the past is the past.
Rich gave government unemployment figures a dozen times, and never got an answer to his conflicting evidence. Most of those posts are long gone. Again, I don't agree with the "liar" claim, but the "liar" claim seems to have only been used after facts he presented were left unanswered or ignored by someone who claimed otherwise many, many times.

Today's Featured Article - Good As New - by Bill Goodwin. In the summer of 1995, my father, Russ Goodwin, and I acquired the 1945 Farmall B that my grandfather used as an overseer on a farm in Waynesboro, Georgia. After my grandfather’s death in 1955, J.P. Rollins, son of the landowner, used the tractor. In the winter 1985, while in his possession the engine block cracked and was unrepairable. He had told my father
