And now for the other side of the story....I have a wind lease, but I do not and will not be getting a turbine on either of my farms. The nearest to me is 900 meters, from a previous project and if a turbine was placed on my farm,(at 550 m away) it was deemed that the combined noise output would exceed the maximum allowable limit of 40 db. The wind turbine company receives 13.5 cents per kw/hr---which, due to the latest increase in hydro --is now LESS than the 14 cents appearing on my bill (hydro one) There are many arguments for and against wind turbines, but realize that ALL major oil companies have and still do receive subsidies from government for various aspects of their operations (exploratory and research to name a few) Also know that the new underground river being constructed at Niagara has costs exceeding 4 Billion---and will not produce one watt of power. The proposed deep ground repository planned at the Bruce power is also expected to costs Billions and will not produce any power, but is needed to clean up nuclears waste. Another fact---this is the first year in 26 that all eight reactors at the Bruce have been on line---why, if we already are exporting power? Does it not concern anyone that the Bruce is the world's largest nuclear installation and as such, every terrorist walking this earth will have a floor plan to it? Also, know that over 11,000 Hydro One employees are on the "sunshine list" making over $100,000 each annually? The CEO's salary is in the millions? Do these not affect your Hydro bill as well??
There are advantages and disadvantages to ALL types of power, but if we wish to secure an efficient resonsible and secure electricity system, we will need ALL types of power---even the power produced by our good old tractors!!
