I'm about 50 and still work full time and have"ok" health insurance. Let's just say I don't want to get real sick because it will be extremely expensive or simply a death sentence. Most of the people I work with or know right now are "getting by" but not knocking down a fortune. I'm slightly worried about health care but terrified about trying to keep working for 15 more years. My job is wearing me out. And even if I make it to the medicare or social security threshold there wont be enough coming in to pay the part b and all the ridiculous property taxes around here. The ONLY people I know around here that are truly prospering are retired with a state, county, city or big three auto co pension and insurance plans. They are far exceeding the people that are still working every day. With disappearance of the traditional pension plans this country is going to be doomed with poverty. 401k plans are laughable at best. I know, I have one and would trade it for a defined plan in two seconds if given the chance.
