: I have a Case 420B with the hydraulicly activated clutch pack and torque converter. I think this is what was known as the Case-O-Matic. It has a loop plumbed into the radiator's lower tank to cool the fluid and the manuals refer to lots of sources of problems. It just looks to me it could be a lot of problems.

I've had the tractor running after rebuilding the engine and the clutch seems to be functional except it lurches when being engaged. I can't seem to "feather" the clutch to get a smooth engagement. Is that type of engagement normal?

How has the reliability been on this type of system?

: Also, there is another lever on the dash that goes to the same "clutch" valve. The service manual indicated this other valve to be a pressure regulator. What does it do & how is it operated?

Any comments are appreciated.

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner. ...
