: I'm looking to buy a small (<20HP) garden tractor w/PTO to use primarily to mow less than 1/2 acre, blow snow off a large driveway, light hauling, and perhaps do some tilling. I'm avoiding the newer "Craftsman/MTD/NOMA lawn tractors" and am looking for an older, more heavy duty one. I am looking at primarily Cub Cadets, Bolens, WheelHorse, Simplicity, Gravely and John Deeres. Availability of parts and attachments, in addition to the performance of the tractor is a big factor in the decision. : Any advice on specific ones to look for or to avoid? : Any recommendation Well I have a '94 Craftsman 20 h.p. Garden Tractor and it's got a few re-occuring problems, it eat's belts like crazy, and the electric lift needs cleaning every now and then. The Kohler engine is a champ though, I highly recomend that engine on any tractor, will go through waist high weeds without bogging. I don't know how much you have to mow, but a Farmall A or a Ford 8N or 9N will do the rest of your chores without fuss, and you could get a decent one for the price of a new garden tractor.
