I'm not sure there was anything rude here, just possible a couple slight errors. The first mistake is offering something for sale with no asking price. The value of things like old machinery in largely unknown shape is very subjective, so if you don't post a price then you should expect to get wildly varying offers. On the other hand I agree with those who say too much info was included in the "offer" - unless you're looking for a new friend, stick to business!
