I sell multiple tractors on craigslist all the time. I was getting 4 to 8 calls a day asking me..
does it run?
what kind of tractor is it.
is it a diesel.
how much does it cost,
what kind of shape is it in?
Can you send me pictures.
Then the offers..
1985 ford 7710 Diesel Tractor with cab, a/c, and heater. listed for $7500.. 80 hp, Turbo diesel 8/2 speed, live hydraulics, live pto, new paint, great tires, everything works. dual two hydraulics ports, power steering, 2900 hours. Everything works, Ready to go to work. Dealers are selling this model for 9000 to 14995. (taken for local ads)
And then you get 5 offers a day for $2000.... therefore.. NO LOWBALLERS!!!!!!!! I get tons of calls on pricing, so we come to an agreement, never to see them again. 2 calls a day saying they are coming at 6pm.. Never see them. 3 calls that don't speak English so they have their daughter on. She say her dad whats to know about the thing. Four emails a week from a Naval Captain who is at sea, and wants to use an agent.
Actually had a foreign speaking guy show up and insist that I take $2000 for it and he was going to ship it out of country. After politely telling him I would not take $2000 for it over and over for an hour, I finally had to tell him to leave and not come back. I have had to mount a wifi camera out front to keep people from stealing parts of the tractors. And post signs about security cameras. So Yes.. I'm a bit of a jerk till folks show me they are really interested, Then I try to get them to drive it,, Will hook up an implement for them, and make sure they know all about the tractor they are buying. And I always give them a safety talk before they drive away.
All of which are in the ad. I have starting putting negative statements in the ad.. DO NOT CALL AND ASK ABOUT TRACTOR, THE AD TELLS YOU EVERYTHING I KNOW. NO PRICE NEGOTIATIONS ON THE PHONE, IF YOU CANT COME SEE IT AND DRIVE IT, YOU CAN'T BUY IT..
This cuts down MOST of the calls but still get a few from the illiterate every day. I need to get work done and cant stay on the phone telling folks whats in the ad. And three to four pictures of a tractor are enough for the ad.
So there is a reason you see the statements.. If the person really is looking for an 80 pto hp hay tractor, they will overlook the statements and call to come see it. If he's looking for a $500 dollar tractor, he's the JERK and needs to go away.
So.. Again, did you come across as a tire kicker? Maybe he already had 16 calls.. but he should have put in a price, or expected a lot of calls and emails. I dont bother to return half of the emails and texts I get each day. Its easier to just delete them.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: 1964 JD 2010 Dsl - Part 2 - by Jim Nielsen. Despite having to disassemble the majority of my John Deere 2010's diesel engine, I was still hopeful I could leave the engine-complete with crankshaft and camshaft-in the tractor. This would make the whole engine rebuild job much easier-and much less expensive! I soon found however, that the #4 conrod bearing had disintegrated, taking with it chunks of the crankshaft journal.
