Bryce, chalk it up and move on. Like said, next time, keep your initial contact very short. Ask for a price, he'll either give one or he won't.
Keep your sense of humor in buying/selling. Hey, if he said best offer and if your 200 is the only offer..it's yours!
Sellers,
Please list a price....any price...I need a starting point for my offer. (this includes for sale signs roadside.)
I see a lot of posts from sellers about wasting their time.
I buy/sell a lot, so I understand that, but when I'm buying, please don't waste MY time.
think about it...if you have a price in mind, but will take less....if you force me to make an offer blind..my initial offer will be half of what I'd be willing to pay...too big a $ swing...hard feelings..we both walk away. too bad. The actual I'll give-He'll take totals were probably pretty close.
No price? tells me....
'if you have to ask, you can't afford it'
'seller is going to say collectible, rare, antique, so many times my head will hurt......as they ask $6k for a beater Ford N' lol.
If you are the seller, your job to set a starting price/BO/firm/etc.
And you are the seller, your phone number out there. You absolutely won't get mine until I get a price.
Online listing? you used the technology, expect it.
My first contact will be email....it's an internet ad.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
