I'm getting to be enough of an antique, I am replacing some of my antique tractors. Is there anything more difficult to get on and off than an AC B? Plus I wanted some other features like 3 point hitch, power steering, remote outlets, etc. etc.
I bought a NH TT60A. Several years old, less than 500 hours. It's a basic, simple, Fiat, but with a bunch of electrical "safety" junk added. Working to find out what's draining the battery, I removed the annoying alarm. Fortunately the safety features I wanted intact(like not being able to start it in gear/PTO on) were unaffected. While researching and checking all starting features, I find this solenoid on the back side of the injector pump. Or so I thought. It's actually a "KSB"- kaltstartbeschleuniger- cold start advance, or cold start accelerator according to another translation. A temperature sensor, in the water pump, closes at 131 degrees F, sends voltage to this unit, whereupon the wax inside is heated, expands, and pushes the rod/arm on the pump, to return the pump to running timing. Anyone seen this before?!

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
