If ya'll think cockfighting is gone, you are sorely mislead. True it doesn't go on in this country, but the rest of the world it is big sport. I have a small hatchery business and routinely hatch out high dollar birds that wind up in Mexico, Phillipines, South America, etc. Customers bring me eggs and we incubate and hatch them. They are shipped through the U.S. mail system. A rooster in a wood box with a fresh apple can last quite a few days in the mail system. My customers routinely ship $500 birds. I have a $200 bird for sale right now and he will wind up in S. America somewhere earning his keep.
