I went to a sale today. Farmer was retiring and selling out - small stuff, equipment, AND dairy herd. He was a well liked guy and the bidders were willing to pay for some well maintained high usage equipment. I couldn't get anything bought - Home-made running gear with a feed bunk on it brought $250; 3-16 F145 plow brought $800; chicken catcher brought $17.50; small bucket of hydraulic fittings brought over $40; etc....

So they finally get to the thing I really wanted - a set of double ring tire chains to fit 16.9-38 tires. They showed wear, but none of the rings were broken, and they had very good, heavy-duty clasps. I paid $100 more than I wanted to pay and $200 more than I hoped to pay, but I FINALLY got something bought. They were still on the 3020, so I went over and dropped them off as they come up to the last tractor - John Deere 4230, power shift, 1975 model, 9600 hours, turboed, poor condition 20.8-34 tires, with a home-made front snow plow blade. Brought a stunning $15,750 This trator also had a set of chains on it, but they were just road chains so I never looked at 'em twice.

So I was BSing with a neighbor and the auctioneer was going on and on about having $100 and wanting $150 for something.

Neighbor goes "They're having an awful hard time selling those chains, sounds like a great deal. Wish I had a number."

I say "I'll bid for you if you want 'em".

"Sure, go ahead"

I put my hand up and yell at the auctioneer. He takes my bid, and says "Sold!" ....and something about the picker.

I say to Gerry, "Got you a set of chains"

Guy beside me goes "No, you got a picker"

"The heck I do, I bought them chains!"

So anyway, anyone need a New Idea 319 mounted picker???? I have her listed on CL for $1100, but am VERY willing to make some lucky bugger a heckuva deal! It's loaded on my trailer and I'll include delivery within 30 miles :-)

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo. ... [Read Article]
