starter gear

I have a late 50's ford tractor, model 841, the gear
on the starter that turns the flywheel broke, actually
all the teeth got stripped off it, I got a new gear and
made sure there was no pieces of the old one in the
flywheel teeth, there was none so now everything works but
my question is should I worry about getting the broken teeth
out of the flywheel and clutch area
