I worked for a union company for a while it had it's benefits for the employee, but at this company if you carried lets say crane operators ticket that didn't mean that you could stand around and watch others work will getting paid because the crane wasn't needed for a half day you were still entitled to run a shovel if need until the crane was needed again,as for the safety departments which I agree with, most have lost ALL sense ability because the ones directly involved in with the work have little input into the rules governing the work procedures, the most of the rules now are implemented by someone who is book trained and never had their hand to the plow, what is needed to make process A safe and productive may and does in some cases create a hindrance and a hazard for processes D,E AND F, both the unions and safety have created a crutch for the low initiative workers to do little work and get paid, case in point if today's work force was faced with the demand to produce on a scale as was done during the second world war we would be speaking a foreign language
