I have to agree with you. I am retired with 38 years working in the trucking industry as a Teamster. As a union driver I had health care, pension plan and somebody to help you settle trouble with the company and the wages were good. I have family and friends that worked in the trucking industry (non union). They made more hourly but their health care did not compare to ours and they had 401 ks for retirement but nobody to stand up for them if they had any problems. The extra money that they made went to pay medical care that their ins didn't pay which left them with little for 401 k. They all said I was crazy for working union but today we are all retired I have a nice income coming in and good health care till I had to go on Medicare and wife will have an income coming in if I pass away. They are still working part time or wife had to go work to make ends meet and if they pass away their wife has no income outside of what they may have in their 401k.

After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
