I think you use smooth edge knives for fine cutting like lawns or landscape cutting. My Gravely gets set up like that. If I want to cut out in the field I throw in the serrated knife set. The OLD guards were single and had serrated ledger plates. All of the new stuff is double guard and no plates. Field cutting only?
