This is a late post but just ran across it and wanted to give my experience. I purchased an SC100 Scaltrol system from Home and Farm Solutions (www.homeandfarmsolutions.com) about 8 years ago after my neighbor bragged on it. Good folks to deal with by the way and they understand farm applications. We live in cave country with lots of limestone and the lime/calcium is a major issue. We had the most trouble with dishwashers (life expectancy <3 years) and water heater elements. We put in the Scaltrol and it really took care of the lime. We have had the same dishwasher now for about the same time (8 years) and NO element issues. They told me the process is exactly the same as municipalities use to deal with hard water, just on a smaller scale. I find the cartridge lasts a little over 2 years and it is a heck of a lot easier and cheaper to replace than my all the bags with my sisters salt system. Go on-line to buy their cartridges though as their on-line prices I found are a lot cheaper than calling in.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
