Actually, they do. I used to ride with really low handlebars, but got a lot of neck and shoulder pain. Did some research on the pain and installed the ape hangers, and my pain is gone. There are a lot of myths about hands going numb, etc., but I have ridden 1,000 miles (straight through) with these type of handlebars, and have yet to have my hands fall asleep.
