Sent. Hoping for the best for you and your family. It can be difficult caring for older people who have the mindset and (generally speaking) the ability to be on their own and go out and about. their body often is not completely up to the task their mind sets out on. Sadly, small mishaps usually change things forever for them.
My grandpa was 89, and very active when he had a accident that was the beginning of a long slow down for him. He was in the skidsteer (doing his garden stuff) and stepped out of it as he had done probably close to a million times. Unfortunaly, he did not have the quick couplers locked holding the bucket on the skidloader. When he stepped on the cutting edge, the bucket popped off the couplers and raked down the back of his right leg. It skinned his right leg and took almost a year to heal (greatly due to his own stubbornness). That spring dad and I took over operations of the farm. He was never quite the same again. He continued to live at home until his death last November.
It is just so sad how one misstep for the elderly who are so self sufficient can be the beginning of a life changing event for them.
