I have been replacing points for 60 years now and have worked on several vehicles with electronic ignition. But, would you believe, I just installed my very first electronic ignition that replaces the points about a month ago. I checked coil resistance according to instructions and left the resistor in the circuit that was factory installed. However, no mention of the starting bypass circuit was in the instructions so to play it safe I unhooked and taped that circuit off. I would have thought their instructions would have given a clue on that part of the installation. IH offered a electronic ign unit that you still used the points and I did install those. Points lasted forever with that but it was quite a large unit .
