Hard to say. Got to look for a failure mechanism. What's the
failure mechanism in the coil?

Heat that can cause irreversible damage like melting insulating
varnish off the coil wiring allowing two or more wires to touch,
lowering the internal resistance and a domino effect.

Heat can change the permeability of the iron core that links the
primary to the secondary high voltage windings and it won't
couple magnetic flux as well rendering a weak spark, but that's
curable with temp...let it cool off.
