Always loved to plow from my first time with a 2 bottom drag plow behind and Oliver O C 3 on up to the Massey 1805 with 7 bottoms onland . But now we have moved away from the moldboard to deep ripping . Last fall we added upper shank pieces to get a little more upper soil movement and fracture . We not only break up the hard pan from years of moldboard plowing but it is faster and it allows the water to drain deeper and the ground to dry out faster and warm faster . Now the down side to this is that it takes a bunch of pony power. The plus side is that we need not do this every year on every field that we plant . We will still keep the old 710 five bottoms but only use them about once every five or six years to turn under the hay fields then after the corn is taken off the first year then run the ripper thru it in the fall and we are good to go for three years .
