Acids in the coolant can corrode them, but it's unusual. They clog up with junk the same as the steel ones. One thing about old copper cores, though, is that they become brittle from all of the heating/cooling cycles over the years. The last time I had to have one, I reworked a core for a truck radiator and fit it to the old tanks. It's a lot of work.
