: : Have a wonderful old Farmall 806 made sometime in the 1950's. Runs great and love it, but can't get it started anymore. It's suppose to be out of gear with clutch in to start. : Woody, I believe the 806 only has a safety switch on the clutch, which needs to be pushed down to start. : Believe the clutch is bad or the gears are so loose that you can't tell if it is in or out of gear. You can giggle the gears around and around until it finally catches, but it is taking longer and longer. : There are a few things that could be the problem, if you don't give more details. Does it still pull a heavy load? : The detente mech. for the range or the speed trans. may need repair. That is normal for an 806. Also does it have one shift linkage in the top of the range cover? If it does it has the older style deck lid and detente, which can be expensive to repair, especially if you hope to upgrade it. I believe the kit mentioned is for this change. I believe I located one a few months back for a possible project, which was $750, but I took parts from a salvage tractor to repair the old style range detente. : Couple of years ago, someone told me Farmall IH had lots of trouble like this and that they made a kit to fix it. Anyone know anything about this problem? How to fix it? Is there a kit to fix it? If it takes a real mechanic to fix, about how much will it cost or how long should it take? : I work in a CASE-IH shop. I could give you more information, but first I'd want you to answer a bunch more questions. Good luck. The 806 was a good tractor! : Milan
