Things have actually gotten a little better in private sales. I think all the pawn shows and similar have finally gotten thru a few thick skulls. If you are a DEALER with a building, employees, insurance, etc...and there is a very long list of expenses...then I expect to pay you more. If you are selling it in your front yard and the dealer comes along he is going to give you roughly half of what he thinks he can sell it for. That is pretty much the formula on the TV shows and it follows the same pattern used by my business clients. If you are selling it in your front yard and a NON-DEALER comes along (like me), you can expect to get a little more than from the dealer (otherwise why put up with the hassle of dealing with buyers) but not as much as the dealer would get (because I can get the dealer to stand behind it to some extent and you will not). That is pretty much how it works.
