8nsyes yes you can take out the 6 bolts I believe that's how many and pull the top cover off and slide the shift rails so all the slots are inline. There will be 3 shift rails. Since you said you can't put it in 1st or 2nd the shift rails are not inline. If you don't put the shift lever in any gear I bet you can pull the tractor and the wheels will roll freely with the clutch pushed in and if you let the clutch pedal out while in tow the engine would turn over if it's not stuck.
Even though if it's stuck in gear 1st or 2nd you should not be able to put it in any other gear so you have a spring and ball detent that's not working between the shift rails.
