Oil carries up the gears and lubes it. Not be best way of lubing that shaft. The orchard models and the very late 630 row crops had a hole drilled in the governor housing so oil could,be pumped into the end of the idler shaft. The idler shaft is already drilled and has an oiling hole in the center of the shaft, all you have to do is pipe oil to it. The oil came from the line that goes up to the oil gauge. You can drill your own hole and tee into the oil gauge line yourself. The hole fits a 1/8 inch pipe fitting. I did it with my 630 forty years ago after replacing the idler shaft twice. Haven't had a speck of trouble since then. Mine was already drilled so the job was easy.
